Appearance

Laz
Laz's Ref Sheet.

Laz is a canid furry standing at 7’ tall. His fur is grey, including his ears and tail, with tufts coming out of his inner ear. His hair is a dark greyish blue, but can be stylized as black. The sclera of his eyes are a pale yellow and his irises are pitch black without any visible highlight. His shoulders are broad and has a narrow waist, and has a more gangly, but slightly lean body type. Occasionally he will have vein-like markings along his shoulders and upper arms and at the base of his tail, and flare up when his powers overwhelm him. They are a dark red in color, but can shift to black, blue, and green. He has long claws on the end of his fingers.

His main outfit consists of a black button-up with short or rolled up sleeves, dark brown pants, and tall black boots. His sense of style is very lackluster, and only wears plain type clothes. Very occasionally he will don a floral patterned shirt.

Personality

Lazarus, despite the heavy burden he takes on and the immense power he holds, is very subdued and gentle. His stature and eyes give him a scarier appearance, but he attempts to be as non-threatening as possible, always speaking with a small, very quiet voice. With the social grace of a skittish street cat, he tends to keep to himself, lest he bumbles through a conversation being unnecessarily verbose and attempting to explain himself a little too much. It’s clear he lacks a lot of confidence and most social skills, which is understandable considering most of his life was spent being a prisoner on the Hearth compound. He often finds himself dissociating, a coping tactic he's carried over since his time at the Hearth. Because of this he comes off aloof and uncaring, but he is often too focused on spiraling thoughts, endlessly ruminating and giving him worse anxiety. It's often troublesome to pull Laz out of this, and he usually forgets what he's talking about entirely.

Despite his often spacey nature, Laz is quite intelligent, even if he doesn't think so. Despite never having a formal education, his natural sense of curiosity and willingness to learn makes Laz a quick learner. His specialties are mainly nature based, knowing lots of plant life, but also inner workings of how life cores and energy works. Even though all of his powers have been locked away, he learns how to harness them later. Despite this, though, he is less of a fighter, and tends to prefer being more of a tactician.

Laz is hyper-aware of others emotions' around him, arguably a little too much--he's always afraid of upsetting or angering others which leads him to avoid talking altogether. Like a defanged beast, Laz holds a lot of stress and anger, but has been taught to repress any feeling that he had, and he has a sort of numbness to most things. All he knew really was how to be a weapon, much less be a person. Although Laz would very much not have to be the cause for the end of the world, has dejectedly accepted the term—to the point where he tends to have a defeatist attitude about most things, though he doesn’t outwardly express it. In fact, it’s hard for Laz to open up about most things, mainly because he doesn’t properly understand them, nor has the words to describe them considering his lack of education. He has an interest in art, like sketching and painting, which he enjoys as he finds it easy to grasp; it leaves a lot more interpretation and words aren’t often needed for it.

Laz likes art, chocolate, classical music, and coffee. He dislikes reading (he struggles to read in general), confined spaces, a lot of modern technology, and fighting. He wants more than anything to see the world he’s missed out on.

Story

About a thousand years ago (give or take), Laz was once a mortal young man, living in a small, humble village in rolling fields. Laz's memories of his early childhood are hazy at best, but he recalls being an only child to his parents. Life was simple, they had very little to their name, but it was all changed when a terrible disease wiped out nearly the entire village. Left alone to his own devices, a young Laz met Ambrose, a seemingly kind and gentle man who offered to take Laz in. Ambrose traveled with Laz, showing him a life outside the small village in which he came from. Laz was initially thrilled to see the world, and Ambrose felt like a pseudo-father figure to him. Eventually though, Ambrose let him in on the secrets of the worlds and gods, and that he was trying to start a movement to rid the world of Earth's cruel guardian, Elysia, and he would be at the center of it all.

At first, Laz was enthusiastic about saving the world. However, over time, by the time he was already in his late twenties it became clear that Ambrose's plans with Laz was seen more as a weapon, or a tool. Almost like a switch, Ambrose was a lot crueler to Laz.

Laz saw the development of the Hearth firsthand, but more and more time passed and Laz became both a prisoner of them both figuratively and literally, stuck locked away in a chamber for years at a time being fed very little and given life cores. The only times he'd ever come up was for hard labor or to scare other Hearth members. It became hazy after a while.

Abilities

He is a demonic nuke, basically. He has cool forms.

Relationships

Celeste

Celeste

They grew to be fast friends quickly, becoming very close over time as they work together throughout the story. Celeste is unaware of Laz's one-sided infatuation with her, and she is unsure of her own feelings towards him, mostly due to literally everything else happening stressing her to high hell and back, but she cares for him deeply. She wants to show him the world he was denied for so many years, and wants to spend as much time with him as she can. They both have sheltered upbringings in different ways, so they relate to each other a lot and they are each other’s first person to talk to. They work well together, as Laz tends to lean more to a tactician role and Celeste on the front lines.

However, they often have a rift when mentioning Elysia, since Laz greatly distrusts her. Celeste feels like she can sort of convince him to understand, but it comes off as really pushy and a bit insensitive, and it isn't until later that it comes to a head/ Celeste feels a lot of pressure with Laz, having to protect him and all, and most of their dynamic changes throughout the story.

Ambrose

Ambrose

At first, Ambrose was very much like a father to him. After losing his family and village, he clung to him like, well, a lost child, and Ambrose treated him like a son in a way. Any affection Ambrose had for Laz eventually faded once he started preparing Laz to be his weapon against those that try to defy him, and saw him more as a tool than a pesudo-son. It became pretty clear that Ambrose despised Laz, keeping him barely alive and barely fed while locked away for years at a time. Ambrose is the one man Laz fears the most.

Elysia

Scout

Laz met Scout when she (somehow) managed to break into the basement bunker of the Hearth. When he found out that Ambrose was keeping her around for her 'clairvoyance' abilities, Laz immediately took to protect Scout, giving her as much advice as she could to stay away from here, but she kept coming back. Laz sees her like a little sister he never had, and he's impressed with her hardiness and ability to sneak out. She helped him escape, and he promises to never let Ambrose get a hold of her.

Rosella

Rosella

Scary intimidating woman. She bullies him a lot lol

Rosella

Sylvain

He never really understood why Sylvain hated him in the first place, just that he did the moment they met. Sylvain has always looked down on Laz, and has always been cruel and uncaring to him, advocating to be killed outright instead of being used as a world-ending weapon.

Flash

Flash

They become very close in the story, almost like brothers in a weird way--
